Eduardo Camavinga asked to come off during Real Madrid’s 1-0 win over Getafe at the Bernabéu on Saturday night, four days before the Champions League semi-final second-leg clash with Manchester City.

The France international went to the ground in pain after a challenge from Getafe’s Juan Iglesias in the 84th minute of the LaLiga fixture. The initial signs were worrying. Carlo Ancelotti had just ordered his fifth substitution, which was going to be Marco Asensio, but Camavinga stopped him, asking to come off instead. He then went to the bench as Álvaro Odriozola replaced him and was seen with a bag of ice on his leg.

Camavinga limps off

He sat down and was quickly surrounded by doctors and team-mates, who were all concerned about the situation. Camavinga pointed to his left knee, looking at the sky in some discomfort. Asensio stayed on and Camavinga headed for the tunnel, limping.

“A strange twist”

AS understands from club sources that he felt “a strange twist” in his left knee. After the victory, Madrid boss Ancelotti said: “It’s just a blow. He’s 20 years old, he’ll recover very soon!”. The versatile midfielder will undergo an MRI scan on Sunday to determine the full extent of the injury. It remains to be seen if he will be fit for the Etihad on Wednesday.
