Can Clausura 2023 leaders Monterrey beat their record points total?
After beating Tigres, Rayados are within reach of accruing their highest ever regular-season points tally in the Liga MX’s short-tournament era.
On matchday 12 of the Clausura 2023, Rayados de Monterrey defeated Tigres in the Clásico Regio, surpassed the 30-point mark and made sure of qualification for the Liga MX postseason.

Now, Víctor Manuel Vucetich’s team will begin preparing for the playoffs and, in the games remaining in the regular season, aim for a club record: their highest ever points haul in the short-tournament era.
With five games to go before the league phase ends, Monterrey have 31 points - six short of their record return of 37, which they have achieved twice, in the Clausura 2016 and Apertura 2017 tournaments. Both are campaigns that did not end happily for Rayados, as they failed to go on and win the title in either.
What are Monterrey’s remaining games in the Clausura 2023?
All the games that Monterrey have left will be during the month of April: three at home and two on the road.
They host Tijuana on 1 April, then visit Club América at the Estadio Azteca on the 8th, before returning to the Estadio BBVA to face Santos Laguna on the 16th. On 21 April, the five-time Mexican champions go to Mazatlán, and on the 29th they finish off the regular season at home to Pumas.
Before these games, Vucetich’s men are to face Atlas in a friendly in the US during the international break.
