Can Kylian Mbappé break Cristiano Ronaldo’s Champions League record?
The Real Madrid forward struck against Bayern Munich on Tuesday, adding another UCL goal to this season’s tally.

Kylian Mbappé closed in on an incredible Champions League record with a goal against Bayern Munich on Tuesday, despite Real Madrid falling to a narrow 2-1 loss to the German giants.
Bayern have a commanding nine-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga and look well-placed to challenge for a European title again this year. Goals from Luis Diaz and Harry Kane gave Bayern a two-goal lead at the Bernabeu but Mbappé struck late on to halve the deficit.
Mbappé’s goal takes him to 14 goals in nine Champions League appearances so far this season. He is three ahead of Kane in the 2025/26 UCL scoring charts and moves to within touching distance of the single-season record. Real Madrid great Cristiano Ronaldo hit 17 goals in the 2013/14 season, culminating with the club’s historic 10th UCL title in Lisbon.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Champions League records
With five Champions League titles to his name, Cristiano Ronaldo has a real claim to be the greatest Champions League player of all time. The Portuguese star won the competition once with Manchester United and racked up a further four wins with Madrid.
Ronaldo holds the Champions League records for most goals (140), most appearances (183) and most goals in a single season (17). That historic 2013/14 season was one of seven years in which CR7 finished as the Champions League top scorer. He is the only player to have scored in three Champions League finals and his 67 knockout stage goals is the most in the competition’s history.
