Lorenzo Insigne was officially presented with Toronto FC earlier this week and he is expected to make his debut in Major League Soccer on 9 July against the San Jose Earthquakes. The Italian international will have a tough mission ahead of him because he arrives to a team that has been struggling so far this campaign.

Toronto FC lost 2-0 to the Seattle Sounders on Saturday at BMO Field and they continue to drop places in the Western Conference. The Reds are in twelve place in the standings and they were shutout for the fifth time in the 2022 MLS regular season.

Insigne’s long-awaited debut

The Italian international is expected to make an immediate impact on the field and help Toronto make a push to secure a playoff spot in the second part of the season. There is a lot of work to do and the Italian is aware of the pressure he will be under to help a team that has been struggling all season long under manager Bob Bradley.

I played for 10 years with Napoli and with the Italian national team, I won the Euro cup, so I don’t have any problem with being under pressure,” said Insigne, 31, with a hint of defiance when asked about the great expectations awaiting him. “And I’d rather have my actions speak for me on the pitch. So I can’t wait to practice and be there for the team.”
