The wait is almost over for Toronto FC fans to see Lorenzo Insigne make his Major League Soccer debut, with the Italian international to appear for the second part of the 2022 campaign. The Italian is set to be formally presented at the Canada-based team on 24 June.

Insigne will become eligible to play for Toronto on 9 July when they host the San Jose Earthquakes at BMO field. The former Napoli player is expected to have an immediate impact on the team, who are not enjoying a good run of form so far in Bob Bradley’s first year in charge.

Insigne comes to MLS with impressive pedigree

Toronto are currently 12th in the Eastern Conference and averaging the third-lowest expected goals per match in Major League Soccer. Toronto is also conceding the most expected goals per 90 minutes in the league, per Second Spectrum, and Bradley hopes that Insigne will turn things around upon arrival.

The former Napoli forward will be expected to perform from day one and solve underlying offensive issues. Insigne likes playing on the left wing and that could give Bradley another attacking option to create more chances from wide. Insigne should make Toronto a better team going forward but he won’t solve the defensive issues, Bradley’s side having conceded 29 goals in 15 games.
