Carlo Ancelotti says Real Madrid deserved to beat Man City
Goals from Vinicius Jr and Kevin de Bruyne left the Champions League semi-final perfectly set up for the second leg.
It was a mouth-watering Champions League semi-final that had everyone intrigued as Pep Guardiola brought his Erling Haaland-led Manchester City to the Santiago Bernabéu.
A goal just after the half hour by Vinicius Jr had the home fans ecstatic. That feeling was diluted somewhat by Kevin de Bruyne midway through the second half. The game ended one apiece, the second leg is all set for next week, and Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti was feeling positive in his post-match interview. Here’s what he had to say.
Ancelotti on Madrid performance
“Good, good. It was a good game and we had some positive feelings about it. In the first 30 minutes we played well and the players worked well in the transitions. The team played well, I am satisfied. We are happy and have strong motivation for the next one.”
Highlighting a solid performance from Rudiger, Ancelotti knew it was tough game.
“You need to keep calm, stay in your defensive position and not go crazy to press. We stayed with a low block and with our first chance, we scored the opening goal. We deserved to win... but it’s a good result for us and for City.”
And on that yellow card he received for complaining about the ball out of play.
“It seemed to me that the ball had gone out but also the play before should have been a corner and it wasn’t given. The ref wasn’t aware, I have already told him that the cards should be given to those who were on the pitch, not to those of us who are on it...”
