Carlos Vela: “I want to stay but if no deal is reached I am open to leave LAFC”

The Mexico international made his 100th Major League Soccer regular season appearance in LAFC’s 1-1 tie over the Seattle Sounders.

Carlos Vela and Los Angeles FC have not reached an agreement regarding his contract extension that is set to expire at the end of the 2022 MLS campaign. The Mexico international and the Los Angeles-based franchise have been in constant negotiations all-season long but they have yet to reach an agreement.

The 33-year-old made his return following an injury he suffered before the international break in LAFC’s 1-1 tie over the Seattle Sounders on Saturday at Lumen Field. Carlos Vela came in starting the second half and reached a milestone in Major League Soccer with 100 appearances in five seasons.

It is always good to play many games and more when you are in a place that you are happy. I am proud but I think it is time to start winning trophies, something that I have missed in the past years. So I will keep pushing to make that happen with this club,” said Carlos Vela during the post-game press conference.

Regarding his future with LAFC

Carlos Vela was asked if there were any updates regarding his contract extension with LAFC and he confirmed that no deal has been reached yet. The Mexican international wants to stay with the MLS franchise but at the same time if the offer is not good enough he could part ways with LAFC.

“I want to stay and I think we have a really good team. I enjoy playing in Los Angeles with our fans and my goal is to win a trophy with this club [LAFC]. So in my head I’m always focused on winning but at the end of the day this is a business. I am open to stay but if it is not working then I will leave and find another team,” Carlos Vela concluded.
