The soccer world in North America is still reeling with the news that Lionel Messi will join Inter Miami on 1 July upon the conclusion of his current Paris Saint-Germain contract.

One of MLS’s highest profile players, Carlos Vela offered his thoughts on the arrival of the Argentine star to the South Florida based team.

LAFC have struggled since losing the 2023 Concacaf Champions League final to Liga MX side Club Leon as they followed up the defeat with a 0-0 stalemate with Atlanta United before being humbled 4-0 away to Houston Dynamo on Saturday. Vela added post game: it doesn’t matter if we win, lose or draw, the important thing is always to give the max and that’s what I’m looking for. Despite the blip in form, the Black & Gold are still third in the table with games in hand in the Western Conference.

Vela on Lionel Messi

When questioned about the future arrival of Lionel Messi, the striker stated: “I think it is great news for the league, for all the teams and players, but I I still think that we are the ones who want to win the title. His arrival is a good thing for the league and everything around MLS, but our plans don’t change”.
