Carvajal’s ‘smiley’ five minutes after being sent off for Real Madrid
After receiving two yellow cards within eight minutes, an unexpected image appeared on the social media account of the defender.
Dani Carvajal finished the game early against Real Sociedad after the Real Madrid player was sent off for a double yellow. The first came for requesting a caution in the 53rd minute for La Real’s Mikel Oyarzabal, a booking that meant he’d be out for the next league game against Getafe. The second came just eight minutes later, when he went in hard on Aihen Muñoz.
As he was shown the red the defender shook his head. Teammate Nacho, before he got into more trouble with his protests, grabbed him and ushered him away as he responded to Pulido Santana, the referee of the match, with some sarcastic applause and a gesture of ‘ok’ with a finger raised and saying “bravo”. And no sooner had he entered the changing rooms than a smiley emoticon appeared on his social media account.
Real Madrid came away from the Reale Arena with a two-goal defeat, already a goal down to loanee Take Kubo when the red card was shown. The league is long gone. All eyes now on the Copa del Rey final and the Champions League semi.
