The key points of the agreement between Real Madrid, Manchester United and Casemiro for the Brazilian player’s proposed move to Old Trafford have been settled. Madrid will accept United’s offer of 60 million euros in one, fixed fee now plus another €10M relating to various different bonuses. Casemiro will see his salary almost double - he will collect close to 25 million before tax per season (around €13M net). That salary is also guaranteed for one more year than what he already had in place in his current contract with Madrid.

Casemiro last renewed with Madrid during the Coronavirus pandemic, extending his previous contract to 2025. Once he passes a medical with United, he will commit to the English club in a deal which will keep him at Old Trafford until 2026 with the possibility of a one-year extension. If he sees out his contract in full, he will conclude his time in Manchester aged 35 years.

The Brazil international’s reasons for swapping Madrid for England were explained by coach Carlo Ancelotti in todays press conference. “I’ve spoken to him. He wants a new challenge. The club understands his wishes, we have to respect what he wants. Negotiations are now underway, but in the meantime, he is still a Real Madrid player. However, he is set on leaving. If he goes, we have the resources to deal with it. He has helped us a lot and we have listened to his request, there is no going back. If there is an agreement for him to leave, we have to wish him the very best”.

Casemiro is set to become the second highest earner in the United squad, only surpassed by Cristiano Ronaldo and ahead of the next two stars in the ranking, David de Gea and Jadon Sancho.
