The 2024/25 Champions League and its new format will begin to take their first steps with the draw to be held this Thursday, August 29, at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. Atlético de Madrid, Real Madrid, Fútbol Club Barcelona and Girona FC will be the four Spanish representatives present in the top European club competition.

Champions League 2024/25: format change

This draw introduces several changes compared to previous editions. In addition to the traditional ball-drawing format, a more innovative method is being implemented. A ball will be drawn for each team, and then a software program will randomly determine the eight opponents each team will face – four matches at home and four away. The rule that teams from the same federation cannot face each other during this league phase remains in place, just as it did in the previous group stages.

The top eight teams will automatically qualify for the round of 16, while the teams ranked 9th to 24th will compete in a two-legged playoff to determine the remaining eight teams that will advance to the knockout stages. More games.
