Champions League changes U.S. broadcast networks in massive media rights shift
Telemundo has formalized the acquisition of broadcast rights for the European competition beginning in the 27/28 season.
Europe’s biggest club soccer competition has found a new home in the United States. Over the weekend, Telemundo announced it has locked up the exclusive U.S. Spanish-language broadcast rights for all UEFA men’s club competitions.
In an aggressive play to capture and dominate the passionate Hispanic soccer audience, the network will take over the broadcasting rights for the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Conference League, UEFA Super Cup, and UEFA Youth League. Matches will stream and broadcast exclusively in Spanish across Peacock, Universo, and Telemundo Deportes platforms.
The partnership between the media giant and UC3—a joint venture between UEFA and the European Club Association—will span three seasons, running through the 2027-28, 2028-29, and 2029-30 campaigns. Plans are already underway for comprehensive match-day coverage, including studio pre- and post-game shows, tactical breakdowns, and expanded digital entertainment content.
“An outstanding home” for the Champions League
Cesar Conde, Chairman of NBCUniversal News Group, emphasized that Telemundo provides the perfect ecosystem for the competition to thrive among the U.S. Hispanic demographic.
“We are thrilled to partner with UC3 to bring the excitement, passion, and drama of UEFA men’s club competitions to Spanish-speaking fans across the United States,” Conde said. ”Telemundo’s commitment to excellence and its deep connection with soccer audiences make it an outstanding home for the UEFA Champions League.”
Fans won’t see the broadcast shift immediately, however. The upcoming 2026-27 season will remain on current rights-holders TUDN and DAZN before Telemundo officially takes the reins.
