Champions League games today, March 18: How to watch the round of 16 matches on TV and stream online
Find out how to watch today’s Champions League last-16 second legs, as the final four tickets to the quarters are doled out.
After Arsenal, Real Madrid, Sporting CP and Paris Saint-Germain all booked quarterfinal berths yesterday, the Champions League’s last-eight lineup will be completed today, as the remaining round-of-16 ties reach their conclusion.
Today’s second legs - UCL preview:
Sporting, who now face Arsenal in the quarters, last night became only the fifth team in the Champions League era to win a knockout tie by coming back from a three-goal first-leg defeat. Tonight, Tottenham Hotspur are tasked with becoming the sixth. Igor Tudor’s men host Atlético Madrid, eight days after conceding four first-half goals in a chaotic, catastrophic 5-2 opening loss in Spain.
Spurs or Atlético will progress to a quarterfinal against Barcelona or Newcastle United, who meet at Camp Nou in today’s early kickoff. The Blaugrana and the Magpies are currently locked at 1-1, after Lamine Yamal’s stoppage-time penalty earned Barça a dramatic draw last week.
Elsewhere, Atalanta have an even taller mountain to climb than Tottenham: the Italians visit Bayern Munich trailing 6-1 from the first leg in Bergamo. No team in the seven-decade history of the European Cup/Champions League has ever won a two-legged knockout tie after losing the opening leg by five goals. Barring a scarcely believable turnaround in Bavaria, Bayern will face Madrid in the last eight.
Meanwhile, Liverpool find themselves playing catchup at Anfield today, as the Reds battle Galatasaray for the right to face holders PSGs in the quarters. Thanks to Mario Lemina’s first-half winner in Istanbul, the Turks take a 1-0 lead to Merseyside.
