COPA LIBERTADORES
Change coming for Copa Libertadores 2024
The major club tournament in the region will undergo a forced change in the forthcoming season, which will begin in February.
This Saturday, Boca Juniors and Fluminense will compete in the grand final of the 2023 Copa Libertadores de América at the historic Maracana stadium. The Xeneizes are aiming for their seventh title, while the Tricolores are seeking to secure their first.
Beyond the match, we at AS have gained access to information about the next edition of CONMEBOL’s most prestigious club tournament, which involves a significant change for 2024, one that is related to the trophy itself.

Copa Libertadores 2024
The team that emerges victorious this Saturday in Rio de Janeiro - remember we’ll be bringing you live coverage right here on AS USA - could see their metal plate as the last one to complete the extensive figure of the Libertadores trophy. Due to space constraints, there will be no room for the 2024 champion.
However, CONMEBOL has been evaluating this situation over the past few months, and two options have emerged.
The first option is to continue using the same trophy but reduce the size of the plates commemorating the champions. As you can imagine that would be quite some undertaking. The second alternative is to create a brand new trophy.
As yet, nothing has been finalized.
