The 2022 Soccer Champions Tour started with Chelsea defeating Club América at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Timo Werner and Mason Mount scored in the second half to give the Premier League side the 2-1 win and Reece James scored an own goal following a misplayed back pass to goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli.

Tuchel’s reaction after the game

“The first half was tough for us to create clear chances, we couldn’t score but kept a clean sheet and in the second half we found better solutions, and looked more dangerous. It was a very difficult match against very difficult opponents in an environment like playing in a full stadium,” said Tuchel. “So a very good second half, a good first half. We deserved to win and I’m happy that we took that.”

The United States men’s national team ace Christian Pulisic came off the bench at halftime and replaced Hakim Ziyech. While new signings Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly didn’t see minutes in the first friendly of the United States preseason tour for Chelsea.

“He brings experience, quality, top defending quality, height, and everything we’re looking for to play a back three or four,” Tuchel said about Koulibaly. “It’s another brilliant signing for us and we hope he can show his quality as soon as possible. He’s now training outside, he arrived yesterday.”

Now Chelsea has left Las Vegas, Nevada and they will travel to Orlando before going to the Bank of America stadium. The Blues’ will play against MLS side Charlotte on 20 July for their second preseason friendly and three days later they will play against Arsenal for the Florida Cup final.
