Chicago Fire wonderkid Gabriel Slonina to receive call-up from Poland

The 17-year-old is having a brilliant start of the season with five clean sheets in seven games and he could make his international debut with Poland, not the USMNT.

The Polish federation could snatch wonderkid Gabriel Slonina from the United States men’s national team. The 17-year-old has already played with the US youth national teams, but he keeps waiting for a call up to the senior side.

Unfortunately in front of him are Zack Steffen and Matt Turner, whom both are 27-years-old, so he might have to wait a while to secure a starting role with the USMNT. So the Polish federation is taking advantage of the situation and decided to meet with the Chicago Fire goalkeeper on Tuesday night to talk about his international career.

Slonina to receive a call up

According to MLSsoccer.com, Poland will call up the Chicago Fire goalkeeper, but it is not clear if Slonina will accept. The Polish federation is trying to secure Gabriel Slonina because he has a bright future ahead of him and if he accepts the call up, the 17-year-old could play in the UEFA Nations League fixtures against Belgium, the Netherlands and Wales in June.

The head coach of the Poland national team, Czeslaw Michniewicz spoke to the media after Chicago Fire’s win over Union Omaha for the Third Round of the US Open Cup and said that there’s real interest: “Very interested in playing for our squad and it’s heading in the right direction for us.”
