Chicharito Hernández set to return to the Mexico national team
According to several reports, the Los Angeles Galaxy striker will receive a call-up to the Mexico national team for the upcoming World Cup cycle.
Javier Hernández might be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel after not being included in Mexico’s 26-player squad that participated in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Chicharito’s dream was to play at the tournament and represent his country, but Gerardo Martino decided to go with other strikers.
El Tri struggled to find the back of the net during the campaign and they suffered an early exit at the end of the group stage. The Mexican national team went blank in their first two games and they finally found the back of the net on match day three in the 2-1 win over Saudi Arabia to conclude their participation, their worst appearance in 44 years.
Chicharito set to return
The 34-year-old has not played with the Mexican national team since September 2019 because of an internal spat with Martino following that year’s international break. Now that Gerardo Martino is no longer in charge of El Tri, it has been reported by journalist André Marín that Javier Chicharito Hernández will return regardless of who the Mexican Soccer Federation appoints to start the new World Cup cycle.
Mexico is waiting for Gerardo Martino’s contract to expire on December 31 to announce his replacement and start the new process. Among the list of candidates are Miguel Herrera, Juan Carlos Osorio, Guillermo Almada, Marcelo Bielsa and Matías Almeyda.
