Chicharito is named LA Galaxy Player of the Year

For the second consecutive year and after another brilliant MLS season, the Mexican striker has been chosen as LA Galaxy’s top player.

After the elimination in the conference semifinals at the hands of LAFC, LA Galaxy quickly turned the page and this Wednesday the club announced the End of Season Award winners. Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández, the protagonist of the side during the campaign, rightfully received the top award.

For the second consecutive year, LA Galaxy designated Chicharito as Player of the Year. The striker had a great goalscoring campaign with the club, managing to bag 18 goals and 2 assists in 32 games - a personal record for Hernández, putting him as the fourth highest scorer in MLS at 34 years old.

It’s raining awards for Chicharito

In addition to being chosen as the Player of the Year, LA Galaxy announced that ‘Chicharito’ also won the awards for the top scorer, naturally. Added to this duo of trophies for the Mexican striker came the Humanitarian Player of the Year award.

This accolade was given to Hernández for a variety of contributions to the community. He delivered speeches to the players of the academy, as well as to the players of the Cal State Dominguez Hills University women’s team during Mental Health Month which earned him the award and respect of the community.

Chicharito is also a finalist of the MLS Most Valuable Player award alongside other great strikers such as Hany Mukhtar and Sebastián Driussi, who is emerging as the main favourite to be crowned the winner.
