Chivas Guadalajara’s Hierro talks to Mazatlán’s Fabián about return
The new Chivas sporting director reportedly spoke to veteran attacking midfielder Marco Fabián about rejoining the club ahead of the Clausura 2023.
Little by little, the set-up at Chivas Guadalajara is beginning to take shape, with Fernando Hierro installed as the sporting director at the Rebaño Sagrado and Veljko Paunovic appointed as head coach. With two months to go until the start of Clausura 2023 championship, the Guadalajara bosses are already starting to put together a competitive squad.
Fabián to add experience to Chivas group?
According to TUDN, Hierro has held talks in Madrid with Mazatlán’s Marco Fabián, with a view to taking the attacking midfielder back to Chivas ahead of the new tournament.
The 33-year-old, who won Olympic gold with Mexico at London 2012, is under contract with Mazatlán until the Apertura 2023 tournament, but is open to rejoining the club and pulling on the red and white jersey for the first time since the Apertura 2015.
Cortizo also linked with move to Guadalajara
If the signing goes through, Fabián would return for a third spell at Chivas, and would bring experience to the young squad at the Estadio Akron. In recent days, there has also been speculation that the 12-time Mexican champions are interested in Jordi Cortizo, who has impressed for Puebla.
More departures expected at Chivas
So far, Guadalajara have confirmed the departures of head coach Ricardo Cadena and players Jesús Molina and Miguel Ángel Ponce, but there could be further exits in the coming weeks. Los Rojiblancos endured a disappointing Apertura 2022, losing to Puebla on penalties in the preliminary round of the playoffs.
