Chivas kick-start their Sky Cup campaign against Mazatlán

This Friday, the Jalisco Stadium will host the opening Copa Sky game for Veljko Paunovic’s side as they face Mazatlán with a 10:00 p.m (ET) start.

Chivas Guadalajara will return this to their former home, the Jalisco Stadium for their Copa Sky opener as they take on Mazatlán. The pre-season tournament features ten Liga MX sides split into two groups of five with the winners going head-to-head in the final.

The match kicks-off at 10:00 (ET) and will be Chivas’ first game of the competition with the side from Sinaloa having already debuted with a 0-0 draw against Tigres. Atlas, Santos Laguna and Tigres are the five teams in Group B with the winner set to face the triumphant side from a Group A that features Pumas, Toluca, Cruz Azul, Necaxa and América. Guadalajara will still will be without their two World Cup players, Alexis Vega and Roberto Alvarado who remain on holiday after their time in Qatar with ‘El Tri’.

LaLiga tests

Chivas returned from Spain earlier this week where they played two friendly games which saw the ‘Sacred Flock’ record a win against Getafe (1-0) and the slip-up against Athletic Club in Bilbao (0-2). Ahead of the trip to Europe, Chivas played two low key friendly matches with wins against Caimanes de Colima (7-0) and Necaxa (2-0). Friday’s game against Mazatlán, will be the fifth meeting of preseason as the team prepare ahead of the 2023 Clausura season which gets underway in early January with the new Serbian coach still trying to impose his style on the team with fans yet to see a defined progress for the team.
