Chivas’ nod to Chicharito with No. 14 jersey left vacant
The side from Guadalajara confirmed the squad numbers that will be used by the players as the Clausura 2024 looms.
For the bulk of his career, Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez has used the No. 14 jersey. This was the case in his time at Chivas as he spent four years with his hometown side from 2006-2010. Subsequent moves to Manchester United, Real Madrid, Sevilla and LA Galaxy along with the Mexican national side saw Chicharito making the No. 14 jersey his own.
The striker had to forsake his lucky 14 shirt at West Ham and Leverkusen but as rumours of a return to the Akron Stadium grow, everything points to sporting the number 14 on the back of the famous red and white jersey during the 2024 Clausura season.
Former No. 14 at Chivas last season, Ricardo Marín has switched to the No. 19 shirt after the club revealed the squad numbers as the new campaign gets underway this weekend leaving the 14 vacant.
Chivas start their Liga MX Clausura 2024 campaign with a home fixture to Santos Laguna and the game marks new coach Fernando Gago’s first official game in charge of the ‘Sacred Flock’.
