Chivas striker gets warning from Liga MX top-scorer rival
After drawing level with Armando González’s Clausura 2026 goal haul, Atlético San Luis star João Pedro sent the Chivas striker a message.
This Sunday, with his goal against Toluca at the Nemesio Diez, Brazilian striker João Pedro pulled level with Armando González on 12 goals in the Clausura 2026, after González failed to score on Matchday 14.
“Winning obsesses me”
After finding the net - an equalizer that secured a point for Atlético San Luis - João Pedro took the opportunity to send a message to “La Hormiga” González, his chief rival in the Liga MX Golden Boot race.
“Winning always obsesses me - I’m competitive," the San Luis star said. “When you’re competitive, you want to fight until the very end. It’s been a really beautiful battle. Hopefully we both keep scoring, and we’ll see who wins in the end.”
João Pedro, González outstrip Apertura 2025 scoring pace
González and João Pedro are chasing the same goal: a second consecutive Liga MX scoring title, and the first one in which neither is competing against Paulinho.
The pair are currently on the exact same tally they finished with last season - 12 goals apiece - with three matchdays still to play in the Clausura regular season..
Their closest pursuer is Tijuana’s Kevin Castañeda, who has scored seven goals in the current tournament.
Paulinho, a three-time Liga MX Golden Boot winner, is sitting on six goals in the Clausura 2026 and ranks fifth in the scoring table.
