Chivas vs América: Key players to watch
Chivas and América go into battle at Akron Stadium in the Liga MX Clásico Nacional on Saturday night.
It has been many years since Chivas went into the Superclásico of Mexican soccer in top form. Ahead of tonight’s clash at Akron Stadium just one point separates Chivas and América in the table, who sit fourth and fifth respectively. They may not have the most expensive squads in the league, but the two biggest sides in Mexican soccer will have their best players available for tonight’s game. We take a look at the ones who could play a decisive role.
Víctor Guzmán
‘Pocho’ joined Chivas at the start of the year, after finishing his spell with Pachuca and immediately won over rojiblanco fans with several excellent performances. So far, the attacking midfielder has scored five goals in 10 appearances, nine of which in the starting XI.
Henry Martín
The América striker currently tops the Liga MX goal scoring table, with 10 goals in 11 games. He is the Águilas‘s key reference in attack and the team’s chief weapon who can help them win on Guadalajara soil. In the last few clásicos, the 30-year-old has been present on the scoreboard and celebrates his strikes in the same way as other club legends.
Alexis Vega
Despite having been injured for a large part of the tournament, Vega, an international with Mexico is one of Guadalajara’s star players so he will likely given minutes in this latest edition of the Clásico Nacional although probably as a substitute.
Diego Valdés
The Chilean midfielder suffered his fair share of ups and downs during his first few months with América. But little by little, he gradually earned a place in the team. He is currently one of the team’s best players and everything indicates that he will start against Chivas.
