Christian Pulisic made a statement on Saturday and sent a message to newly appointed manager Graham Porter in the six minutes he played against Crystal Palace. The United States men’s national team ace replaced Mason Mount in the 84th minute when the game was tied 1-1, and made an immediate impact.

Four minutes after coming on, the American cut inside from the left flank and beat a defender to give the ball to Conor Gallagher, who picked out the top corner from the edge of the box to beat the goalkeeper and give the Blues the much needed three points. This was the first assist for Pulisic in the campaign in seven Premier League appearances.

Potter on Pulisic

“I think players go through periods in their careers where they have to suffer a little bit for whatever reason and don’t get the game time that they’d like. It’s part of the job, it’s part of the sign-up to be a Premier League football player, that it’s not necessarily straightforward to be a regular in a top-four team,” said Potter prior to the game against Crystal Palace. “That’s not to say you don’t understand players’ frustration as well when they don’t play because that’s what they want to do, that’s what makes them happy.”

Pulisic is indeed ready to fight for a starting role and prove his worth now that Potter is in charge. The 24-year-old has only started one game so far this season in the Premier League for a total of 162 minutes. The American will need to showcase his talent in the few minutes he is given to earn a more prominent role with Chelsea.
