City renew Foden’s contract with same terms as Haaland
Manchester City places both in the same wages bracket with Foden set to earn 12 million euros a year, according to reports from England.
As far as Manchester City are concerned, there is no difference between their star summer signing and a player who came up through the youth ranks. Phil Foden, the pearl of Manchester City’s academy, will be handed the same contract conditions as marquee signing Erling Haaland. According to The Daily Star, City have handed Foden a new contract in which he will earn 12 million euros in each of the six years in the new deal - the same as the Norwegian.
As a result, Foden makes his way up the salary scale at Manchester City and will be seen as Haaland’s equal. Haaland joined City on a five-year contract from Borussia Dortmund in June. The similarities with Foden are evident - both are stars of the present and tipped for even greater things ahead. Both are already key players for next season and they are expected to continue gaining weight in the squad.
Patience plays in Foden’s favour
The English midfielder’s contract was up for renewal and a first offer was made at the beginning of the year. Six months ago, City offered Foden the same length of contract, but at a rate of 150,000 pounds a week.
The midfielder decided to hold on and wait before accepting. Once again, it was the right move by the talented 22-year-old. Due to his brilliant performances in the second half of the campaign whilst being aware of the offer they had made to Haaland, City raised their proposal to 200,000 pounds a week. It’s a salary which Foden thoroughly deserves after such a remarkable season under Pep Guardiola. The youngster has been earning his place in one of the most disputed midfields in the world, becoming a ‘starter’ for both club and country in his early 20s .
Last season he played a total of 3,184 minutes spread over 45 games in which he has reached double figures in goals and assists - 14 goals and distributing up to eleven more to his team mates. Foden was vital in City clinching the Premier League, won over Liverpool on the last day. And he renews with one great objective in sight, one that Real Madrid and Chelsea deprived them of in recent years: lifting the Champions League.
