It’s all happening in Mexico City! Club América are closing in on their first signing ahead of the Apertura 2023 - and no, it’s not a manager. It is Kevin Álvarez, who has been linked with a move to the club from the capital over the past few days. Despite the links and rumours, it was not until Friday 9 June when the board met to reportedly seal the deal.

The Tuzos youth player will arrive at Club América on a deal reported to be four years long and some media outlets, such as Clarosports, are already talking of Álvarez as a Club América player. Official confirmation of the deal is not yet known, but the player could link up with his new club next week when the team begin a manager-less pre-season training.

América may have found a potential bargain

It is said that Álvarez has signed a four-year deal at the club and the contract includes a release clause that can only be activated if a European club opts for the full-back. The price for the player is said to be around $4.5 million, a figure way below the value of $11 million that was given by Guillermo Almada.

Club América have been on the lookout for a right-back ever since the departure of Jorge Sánchez to Ajax, and the uncertainty surrounding the club has not helped things, as they are currently the only team in Liga MX without a manager in place, with just 3 weeks to go until the start of the season.

The manager hunt continues...

Potential managers have been sounded out for what seems like an eternity, with ex-Spain boss, Roberto Moreno the latest name on the list. As for further signings, the club are also said to be looking at Mexican centre-back, César Montes, after he was relegated from Spain’s top division with Espanyol; whether or not he wants a move away from Europe is another question altogether.
