Club América is four games shy of breaking record
The capital-based team are on a strong run to secure a top-four finish with seven games left in the regular season in Liga MX.
Club América started the season at the bottom of the table in Liga MX, but they have quickly turned things around with seven games in the regular season. In their last game, the capital-based team defeated Club Querétaro on the road with a solo goal from Emilio Lara to extend their unbeaten streak to five games.
The Eagles now sit in third place in the standings with a record of six wins, one draw and three defeats for 19 points. Club América has played one less game than Monterrey, who sit in first place, and they have been unstoppable in the second half of the tournament.
This is the ninth time since 1997 that Club América are unbeaten in five or more consecutive matches and they want to make history in this tournament. The capital-based team reached eight consecutive victories in the 1997 and 2021 campaign, a franchise-record, and this tournament they are four games shy from breaking it.
Last tournament they were shy from tying that record after obtaining seven consecutive wins when Fernando Ortíz took over the managerial job after the club parted ways with Santiago Solari. So the Argentine coach is on the brink of history and he wants to improve the achievements obtained in his first campaign in charge.
What’s next for América?
Club América will go on the road to play against Mazatlán on 26 August and then they will have back-to-back games. The Eagles will host Tigres UANL on 3 September and three days later Atlético San Luis.
If they are able to walk away with the three points they would have reached eight consecutive wins, since matchday 7, and they will need to defeat Necaxa on 9 September to break the unbeaten franchise-record.
