Club América targeting another player in Brazil
Las Águilas are out to complete their Clausura 2026 roster with the arrival of Gabriel Fuentes, a Colombian left-back at Fluminense.
Club América’s Brazilian shopping expedition continues. Raphael Veiga was the first signing, Vinicius de Lima is on track to become the second, and the third looks set to be Gabriel Fuentes. The Águilas appear close to sealing a deal for the Colombian, who currently plays for Fluminense. With his arrival, the Coapa side would finalize its roster on the last day of the Clausura 2026 transfer window.
According to reporting from César Merlo, América is very close to landing Fuentes. Negotiations are said to be at an advanced stage for the 28‑year‑old. Just as they did with Veiga, América is pushing for a one‑year loan with a purchase option. He has a market value of €1.7 million, per Transfermarkt.
Who is Gabriel Fuentes?
Fuentes is a Colombian footballer who plays as a left back. He currently represents Fluminense, the club he joined in September 2024. However, he has struggled to make an impact with the Rio de Janeiro side. So far, he has appeared in 34 matches, starting 26 of them, without scoring a goal and contributing four assists.
His current situation isn’t promising. He has been a backup at Fluminense and hasn’t played at all in 2026. His most recent appearance came in November 2025, when he came off the bench in a match against Palmeiras.
Fuentes began his career with Barranquilla FC, then moved to Junior. In 2023 he tried his luck in Spain with Real Zaragoza, and for the past couple of years he has been with Fluminense, where he is under contract until August 2028. América will have to move quickly to get the deal done, as Liga MX’s registration deadline is this Monday, February 9.
