Club América targets these two strikers for new Liga MX title push

After falling just short of an historic four-peat—thanks to a surging Toluca side that claimed its first title since 2010—Club América is looking to reload and stay atop the league. According to Mexican sports journalist Raoul “Pollo” Ortíz, the club has set its sights on Necaxa’s Díber Cambindo and Xolos de Tijuana’s José Raúl “Pantera” Zúñiga.

How much could Cambindo and Zúñiga cost América?

While no formal offers have been made, sources say the interest is real, and preliminary talks could begin soon. América is known for being measured in the transfer market, but with the season fast approaching, the club may be ready to invest in proven Liga MX talent to boost its front line.

Transfermarkt currently values Cambindo at around $7 million, while Zúñiga is estimated at $5.5 million. Both players reportedly have the green light from América’s front office, and either could provide competition for a starting striker role.

América’s 2025 summer transfer business

So far, it’s been a quiet summer for América on the transfer front. The club recently announced the arrivals of midfielders Alexis Gutiérrez and Isaías Violante, while parting ways with key playmaker Diego Valdés, who has joined Argentina’s Vélez Sarsfield. Other moves include loan deals for Cristian Calderón (to Necaxa) and Javairô Dilrosun (to LAFC in MLS).

América rarely goes for blockbuster signings, but with a few weeks left in the summer window, the team may still make moves to bolster its squad and reassert its dominance in Mexican soccer.
