Club América vs Puebla: match preview
It will take quite the meltdown from América for the regular-season winners to be denied a place in the playoff semi-finals: Fernando Ortiz’s men head into Saturday’s quarter-final second leg with a 6-1 lead.
It was Puebla who went ahead in the opener earlier this week, but a brace by Henry Martín, in addition to goals by Diego Valdés, Alejandro Zendejas, Brian Rodríguez and Federico Viñas, saw América rout La Franja at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc.
It was América’s third straight win over Puebla, and Las Águilas’ 12th game in a row without defeat to Nicolás Larcamón’s team.
In the semi-finals, a tie against Tigres or Pachuca awaits. Tigres have a slender first-leg advantage in the teams’ quarter-final tie, after André-Pierre Gignac’s late penalty earned Los Auriazules a 1-0 victory on Thursday.
