Cole Palmer warns new Chelsea teammate: “He’ll have the bailiffs at his door”

Cole Palmer didn’t have the summer he thought he was going to have. The Chelsea attacker’s omission from England’s 2026 World Cup squad caught most by surprise, including Nike, which featured him in a World Cup commercial after assuming he was a lock for Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

Morgan Rogers was one of the players preferred to Palmer by Tuchel, and the pair will now link up together at Stamford Bridge after the former Aston Villa star completed a $156 million move to London this summer.

At first glance, it may appear as though Rogers has been signed to replace Palmer, who has been linked with a move away from Chelsea. However, the new signing explained one of the reasons he joined the Blues was precisely because of Palmer, who he described as “one of my best friends” after his unveiling.

“One of my best friends”

Palmer and Rogers were both on Manchester City’s books between 2019 and 2023, but their friendship dates back even further.

“I’ve known Cole since I was about 14, first in the England youth teams and then when we were both at Man City together. We’ve been speaking about this for a while; we always would love to have played together. So, for it to happen, we’re both excited,” Rogers said.

“He’s non-stop ringing my phone, texting me, and I can’t wait. I think that’s probably the most special thing, playing with one of your best friends and being around him every day. It’s something I’m really excited about.”

One awkward situation Palmer and Rogers are bound to come across sooner rather than later, however, is that they share the same “shivering,” or “cold,” celebration after scoring a goal.

Rogers was the first to perform it in a senior match but may be forced to look for a new way to mark his first strike for his new club, which presumably won’t take too long to arrive.

Palmer’s trademark warning

Palmer trademarked his “Cold Palmer” celebration with the UK Intellectual Property Office in November 2025, having previously admitted in an interview with The Telegraph that he performed it as “a nod” to Rogers.

“It symbolises joy, passion and hard determination for the game plus it’s funny as it works well with my name,” Palmer explained. “Lots of people might have done it, but everybody knows it is my celebration.”

During Chelsea’s preseason tour of Australia, Palmer was asked whether the duo had discussed a potentially uncomfortable scene when Rogers finds the net for Chelsea.

“We’ve never spoke about it,” Palmer replied. “It’s one of them. He does it. I do it.

“I’ve trademarked it so if he tries to do anything, he’ll have the bailiffs at his door,” he joked.

“Nah, we’ll do it together.”

According to an intellectual property lawyer, “mimicking” or “paying homage” to the celebration can still continue, so perhaps Rogers will be able to “nod” back to his new teammate when he opens his Chelsea account.
