It turns out that Luis Sinisterra’s injury more serious than Leeds United expected. Jesse Marsch revealed today that the player is expected to be out until after the Qatar 2022 World Cup; the club are waiting for the results of the latest medical tests to find out the extent of the injury.

“Luis has a foot injury, more serious than we originally thought. A specialist looked at it and they fear it could be a Lisfranc injury. He will probably be out until after the World Cup break,” said the Leeds United manager in his pre-match press conference.

What is a Lisfranc injury?

The Lisfranc joint is the point where the metatarsal bones (the long bones of the foot) and the tarsal bones (the bones towards the back of the foot) meet. The midfoot is where the problems lie for Luis Sinisterra, who has not featured for the English team since 23 October in his team’s 2-3 loss to Fulham. After that, he missed the extraordinary 1-2 victory against Liverpool at Anfield.

In the game against Fulham, Sinisterra was replaced by Crysencio Summerville after 64 minutes. it was from that moment where the 23-year-old attacker first felt a slight discomfort in his foot, but the pain was not thought to be as serious as it has turned out. “Yes, we hope that he will be training this week,” Marsch said on October; at this point he hoped to have the player back the following day.

Before the assessment by the specialists takes place, it is now feared that the striker will miss the matches against Bournemouth and Tottenham in the Premier League, where they currently find themselves 15th with 12 points. In addition to these two games, Leeds United also have to face Wolverhampton in the EFL Cup on 9 November. This season, the Colombian attacker has played nine games, six as a starter, and scored twice.
