Colorado Rapids sound out Jack Wilshire for coaching position
Colorado Rapids have contacted former Gunner Wilshere and current coach of Arsenal Under-18 team.
After the recent departure of Wayne Rooney from D.C. United, another young British coach could be making the headlines Stateside.
According to the Athletic, former Arsenal and West Ham player Jack Wilshire is one of the shortlisted candidates to take over at Colorado Rapids. The former player has impressed in his time at the helm of the Arsenal U-18 side and lead the young Gunners to the 2022-23 Youth Cup final.
At 31 years old, Wilshere could be one of the youngest coaches to oversee an MLS side as the Rapids look to rebuild after a wretched 2023 season. After hanging up the boots with a final spell in Denmark with Aarhus, just four days elapsed before Wilshire took over with the Arsenal team.
Both Colorado Rapids and Arsenal belong to the Kroenke Sports & Entertainment organisation and Wilshere is in a strong position to take over with current temporary manager Chris Little set to stand down after the conclusion of the MLS regular season on 20 October.
Arteta inspired
Jack Wilshere played with the North London side alongside two of the Spanish midfield greats in Cesc Fabregas and Mikel Arteta and in recent times has worked shoulder to shoulder with Arsenal’s Basque born coach.
The Gunners have reportedly given the 31-year-old permission to talk to the MLS outfit.
