Concacaf set to launch new women’s club competition in 2024
The Concacaf Council agreed in principle to launch a new Concacaf women’s club competition in 2024 as they follow in the footsteps of Uefa and Conmebol.
Concacaf have agreed in principle to launch a new women’s club competition in 2024 which falls into line with FIFA’s plans to create a new FIFA Women’s Club World Cup.
The new Concacaf women’s club competition follows an entire revamp of Concacaf’s women’s national team calendar for 2021-2024, which includes more than double the number of official matches across the region compared with the previous cycle of competitions.
The format and further details of Concacaf’s new women’s club competition will be outlined and then communicated later this year after FIFA confirm further details on the new FIFA Women’s Club World Cup. The new Concacaf women’s club competition will include clubs from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean and will be the sole qualification route for Concacaf clubs to the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup.

The powerhouses in the women’s game in the region are the US and Mexico who already have successful professional domestic women’s leagues with the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and Liga MX Femenil, respectively.

Concacaf President and FIFA Vice President, Victor Montagliani, said: “The ongoing growth and development of women’s football is a major priority for Concacaf. The next phase of our strategy is to focus on a women’s club platform and this is a very important tep towards the launch of an exciting new competition next year.”
