Cristiano Ronaldo thanks Liverpool fans for show of support
During the midweek game between the bitter rivals, the entire stadium sang Liverpool anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone after the United forward lost a baby.
Cristiano Ronaldo has thanked Liverpool fans for their heartfelt gesture towards the Manchester United forward, who was absent from the midweek meeting between the two sides following the death of his infant son during childbirth. His partner, Georgina Rodríguez, had been carrying twins and a baby girl was born at the same time.
In the seventh minute of the game at Anfield, the home fans stood in unison to applaud Cristiano and his family, with a magical moment that ended with the entire stadium singing the Liverpool anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Anfield sets aside rivalry in show of compassion for Cristiano
The match ended in disaster for Manchester United, who were beaten 4-0 in the absence of the Portugal captain, but the night belonged to the crowd, who despite the bitter rivalry between the two sides showed that, in line with the famous (misquoted) words of legendary Liverpool manager Bill Shankly, there really are more important things than the result of a game of football.
“One world… One sport… One global family… Thanks, Anfield. Me and my family will never forget this moment of respect and compassion,” Ronaldo wrote on social media after the rendition dedicated to him and his family.
