COPA AMÉRICA
Cucho Hernández: “James Rodríguez is the best Colombian player in history”
The Columbus Crew forward said he was very happy about the Colombian national team midfielder’s good performances at the Copa America 2024.
Juan Camilo ‘Cucho’ Hernández scored his 12th goal of the season in Columbus Crew’s 5-1 win over Los Angeles FC on Saturday night at BMO Stadium. The reigning MLS Cup champions ended the Black & Gold’s streak of 13 consecutive matches without defeat in all competitions.
“We knew it was going to be a very difficult match. The final was very recently and you could feel that rivalry that has been created between these two teams. I think it’s a great rivalry in MLS because both teams have proven that we are one of the best and the numbers say so. It was an incredible match, we analysed LAFC, we highlighted their best player and that was very important,” said the Colombian after the match.

Cucho ‘will continue to fight’ to make Colombia squad
Cucho Hernández was also asked about the final of the Copa America 2024 between Colombia and Argentina. The 25-year-old attacker praised his compatriot James Rodríguez for the great tournament he is having and defended him for the criticism he has received recently. He hopes to see Colombia win what would be their second Copa América and also expressed his desire to be called up.
“As for James, I am very happy because for me he has been the best player in Colombian football history and I think people were a bit unfair to him in previous years. Let’s hope this is the day we get the second trophy. I have a very high ceiling as a player and I live with the feeling that I can be there,” said the Columbus Crew striker.
“But at the same time I am supporting the team from afar because I am Colombian. If I’m not there, I have to support and I’m born to support the national team. We hope they can win the title, but obviously I will continue to fight to be there soon,” concluded Juan Camilo Hernández.
