Why did Valencia defender Mouctar Diakhaby not stand with anti-racism banner?

Valencia defender Mouctar Diakhaby didn’t stand with the players of Mallorca and Valencia as they held a banner against racism before their LaLiga encounter on Thursday. The banner, “Racists, out of football”, is one of the initiatives that arose in the wake of the Vinícius case this week.

Diakhaby frustrated with treatment

Diakhaby stood away from the rest of the players, who were holding the banner together alongside the match officials. The centre-back is obviously not in favour of racism, nor is he in favour of the difference in treatment and interest of the authorities in his case and that of Vinícius. Two seasons ago, Diakhaby claimed to be the victim of an alleged racist insult by Cádiz defender Juan Cala in a match between Cádiz and Valencia, a case that was never resolved.

Diakhaby, who posted a tweet on social media in support of Vinícius, has had another run-in with Cala in recent days.
