Diogo Jota injury update: how long will he be out of action for?
Jota went off injured in Liverpool’s win over Brentford on Saturday.
Liverpool defeated Brentford 4-1 at the Gtech Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday but have been hit with the news that forward Diogo Jota is set for a spell on the sidelines.
Jota went off with an injury in the first half of the encounter and according to Portuguese outlet Record, he will miss two months of action after being stretchered off the field of play in Saturday’s victory.
Brentford captain Christian Norgaard landed on the Portugal international’s knee after an aerial challenge. Jota’s knee bent in the clash, leading to the injury that will now see the in-form forward miss more of the 2023-24 campaign having already been ruled out earlier this season. He was later replaced by Mohamed Salah in the 44th minute of the game.
The 27-year-old is set to undergo further scans on Monday, but the “worst-case scenario is excluded”, with the former Wolves player expected to be fit again before the end of the current campaign.
“We have to see how [bad]. We don’t know that yet,” Jurgen Klopp said post-match. “The fact Curtis cannot play on tells you it must be something because he would have played on at all costs. Diogo looks worse. I didn’t see it back but I heard the pictures didn’t look great. We have to see there.”
