The club will pay the €20M of his clause and bring him in if the electoral bid wins. Next year the right-backs will be Dumfries and Trent.

Update:

Florentino Pérez’s project for next season keeps taking shape — and now the third name is official. After José Mourinho and Ibrahima Konaté, the next addition is Denzel Dumfries, who will join Real Madrid if Pérez wins Sunday’s election. The deal is fully closed.

Nico Paz’s return — valued at about $9.8 million — is also part of Florentino’s plan, though rival candidate Riquelme includes him in his own proposal as well. Beyond that, their visions diverge sharply.

Florentino Announces Dumfries on Live TV

Pérez revealed the signing on Horizonte with Iker Jiménez, just three days before the vote and one day after Riquelme shook the race by announcing his pursuit of Erling Haaland.

“Should I give you another name?” Florentino teased. Then he dropped it:“The first three signings are Mourinho, Konaté… and Dumfries, whom we’ve already signed.”

What Dumfries Brings to Madrid

Dumfries is a 30‑year‑old Dutch right back, standing 6′2″, known for his elite physicality and ability to dominate duels. Analysts across Europe agree: he’s a force of nature on the flank.

His path to the top:

  • Broke through at Sparta Rotterdam at 19
  • Moved to Heerenveen, then PSV
  • Joined Inter Milan in 2021 for roughly $16 million
  • Won 2 league titles, 3 Coppa Italia, 3 Supercoppa Italiana
  • Logged 207 matches, 27 goals, 28 assists

He underwent ankle surgery in December and missed 103 days, but he’s now fully recovered.

The Price: $21.7 Million

Inter wasn’t actively trying to sell him, but they weren’t blocking the exit either. Dumfries had a $21.7 million release clause for foreign clubs — and Madrid will activate it.

Liverpool were keen too, but Dumfries pushed for Madrid. His preference was decisive.

He’s currently with the Netherlands preparing for the World Cup. After the tournament, he’ll rest — and then, if Pérez wins, he’ll put on the white shirt.

Florentino Teases a Record‑Breaking Transfer

Moments after confirming Dumfries, Pérez hit one of the “red buttons” of his campaign:

“On Tuesday we will make an offer for a player that would be the largest transfer fee Real Madrid has ever paid.”

He added more clues:

  • The bid will be at least $163 million
  • The player belongs to a Champions League club
  • Not Haaland, Olise, Kane, or Doku
  • Does not play in the Premier League

This move would happen only if Pérez wins the election, and again, election outcomes should always be verified with reliable sources.

A massive signing attempt. A campaign promise. And another twist in a dramatic race for Real Madrid’s future.
