England - Brazil summary: Endrick winner, score, goal and highlights | International friendly

Endrick, de estar cerca del Chelsea a la antesala de debutar en el Santiago Bernabéu

England vs Brazil: as it happened

Peeep peep peeep! Brazil are the winners at Wembley. It’s very hard to begrudge the visitors their victory. They created almost all of the clear-cut chances.

For England, it's a first Wembley defeat in three and a half years - and a little bit of a letdown, to be honest. The pre-game talk was that the hosts were, for once, favourites against the five-time world champions, but they struggled to carve out genuine scoring opportunities.

Brazil, meanwhile, bring an end to their three-game losing run. For Dorival Júnior, it's a dream start to his tenure as Seleçao boss. As for Endrick, well, as Clive Tyldesley once said: remember the name.

The Brazilians now travel to Madrid for a friendly with Spain, while England are back at Wembley for a clash with Belgium. Both those games are on Tuesday.

Thanks for joining! Bye!

William Allen
95

The corner almost leads to a goal - but not for England.

Brazil break at pace, working it to Endrick in acres of space inside the English box. He tries to plant a sidefooted shot low into the net, but Pickford saves.

William Allen
94

One last England attack. Can they salvage a draw?

From the right-hand channel, Foden drifts a cross over to Rashford at the back post, but again he's beaten to it and it's behind or a corner.

William Allen
93

Oh, that's a crucial touch from Danilo.

From the right, Rice whips a ball over to the far post, where Rashford is waiting to get his head to it. Danilo gets there just before the Manchester United forward, however.

William Allen
91

Collecting the ball on the left, Rashford tries to dance his way into a shooting position in the box, but is muscled off it by a gaggle of Brazilians.

There will be four minutes of time added on.

William Allen
90

Here are those Brazilian substitutions. Pablo Maia and Bemer are on for Vinícius and Wendell.

William Allen
89

Brazil work it left to Endrick, who tries to skip past Konsa.

Konsa does well to hold the teenager off, and wins a free-kick for England.

Another couple of Brazil subs coming up.

William Allen
87

Wembley has fallen very quiet indeed. The only fans making any real noise are the Brazilians.

William Allen
85

Endrick, of course, is heading to Real Madrid in the summer.

If you'd like to know more about the Bernabéu-star-to-be, let me point you in the direction of this visual story by my colleague Sergio Moraleda.

William Allen
83

That's Endrick's first goal for Brazil, and England are in grave danger of losing at Wembley for the first time since October 2020.

William Allen
81

England are adamant that Vinícius was offside - but one VAR check later, the goal stands!

William Allen
80

Goal! England 0-1 Brazil! Endrick scores for the visitors!

In the blink of an eye, Brazil get Vinícius haring into the England box, with Pickford coming out to meet him.

Pickford saves, but Endrick is there to turn home the loose ball! The 17-year-old!

William Allen
79

Brazil take off Raphinha and Bruno Guimaraes, and replace them with Douglas Luiz and Savinho.

William Allen
78

Rashford plays a one-two with Foden on the left, but is dispossessed when he tries to surge on towards the byline.

Rashford then fould Bruno Guimaraes as the Newcastle midfielder brings it clear.

William Allen
75

Mainoo is on, as is Marcus Rashford.

Gallagher and Gordon are withdrawn.

William Allen
74

It looks like Kobbie Mainoo is about to be handed his England debut.

William Allen
73

Watkins does very well to get a cross away from the left-hand byline - he seemed boxed in - but his ball can't find anyone in a white shirt.

At the other end, Raphinha cuts inside menacingly from the right, before sending a low strike towards goal. Dunk, one of the men just on, is well positioned and blocks.

William Allen
72

A double substitution for Brazil. Andreas Pereira and Endrick Felipe are on, with Paquetá and Rodrygo making way.

There are some jeers from the home supporters for Paquetá, who very much assumed the role of pantomime villain tonight.

William Allen
71

Gallagher tumbles in the box when Beraldo comes out to meet him on the right-hand side, but again the referee waves away the penalty appeals.

William Allen
70

Twenty minutes to go at Wembley.

Can someone find the breakthrough, or are we headed for a second straight goalless draw between these sides?

William Allen
68

Bellingham is indeed off, with Jarrrod Bowen replacing him.

It’s a triple England change: Joe Gomez is for Chilwell, and Lewis Dunk is on for Maguire.

William Allen
66

Bellingham rises highest at the back post to meet Gallagher's right-wing cross, but sends his looping header past Bento's post.

Bellingham seems to be struggling with spot of cramp. He may be off soon.

William Allen
63

That's a lovely first-time strike by Paquetá, but it flies just off target!

At the top of the England box, Bruno Guimaraes touches it right to Paquetá, who's lurking on the corner of the area. He tries to send it across Pickford and into the far top corner, and Pickford his very happy to see it flash by his goal.

William Allen
60

From about 40 yards or so out, Bellingham spot Bento off his line and tries to lift it over the Brazil keeper, but gets too much on it. It's high over the bar.

William Allen
59

Now it's England's turn to create a neatly-worked forward foray.

Receiving on the left, Gordon waits for Chilwell's overlap before slipping the left-back into the Brazil area with a perfectly-timed pass.

Chilwell has Foden waiting, but his cut-back is blocked.

England recycle it back to Bellingham at the top of the box, where the Real Madrid man lays it off for Gallagher to strike.

Gallagher gets plenty of welly behind his strike, but aims it a couple of yards past Bento's post.

William Allen
57

Again it's slick forward play by Brazil.

Paquetá carries the ball into the England half, before playing it inside to Bruno Guimaraes. He quickly shuttles it out to Rodrygo, who's in space to strike first-time on the right-hand side of the area - but Chilwell does very well to block the shot.

William Allen
55

That's nice combination play by Brazil - but nobody is there to get on the end of Vinícius' ball into the danger area!

Rodrygo works it to Wendell on the left, and he in turn plays it to Vinícius. The Real Madrid forward hares towards the England byline and plays it across Pickford's goal, but there's no-one in a blue shirt to connect with the delivery.

William Allen
53

Gordon cuts back onto his right and fizzes a ball into the Brazil box, but Beraldo clears.

William Allen
50

There's an opening for Gordon - but Bento palms it away!

Rice's free-kick delivery from the right arrows over everyone and onto Gordon's boot, but the Newcastle man's volley is beaten out by the Brazil goalkeeper.

William Allen
49

At the other end, Bellingham lifts a lovely left-wing ball over to the far post, where Foden is arriving. He's beaten to the ball, and it's turned behind.

The corner is delivered right onto Maguire's head, but he times his jump wrong and can only turn it high into the air with his shoulder.

Bento momentarily flaps at it, but Brazil clear.

William Allen
47

Raphinha receives on the right flank, and whips a ball in towards the near post. It's too close to Pickford, though, and the England keeper gathers with ease.

William Allen

Peeep! The players are back out at Wembley, and we're underway once more.

No half-time changes for either team.

William Allen
Why are England wearing black armbands?

In case you were wondering, England's black armbands are in honour of Terry Venables.

My colleague David Nelson has more on the hosts' tribute to their former manager.

William Allen

Physical Paquetá

It was certainly a full-blooded display from Paquetá, let's just say.

HT

Peeep peep peeep! That’s half time.

England have had more of the ball, but it’s the Brazilians who’ve had the best chance

Paquetá really should have scored that opportunity just after the half-hour mark, rather than hitting the post. He’s also more than a shade fortunate to still to be on the field.

William Allen
46

We're into the first of two minutes of time added on at Wembley.

Bellingham slips it left to Chilwell, who has plenty of space to pick out a cross. He slices his delivery dreadfully, and it flies over the bar and behind for a goal-kick.

William Allen
45

Rice also takes the corner. It flies through a crowd of bodies and to Foden at the back stick... but before the Man City man can prod it into the net from point-blank range, Bruno Guimaraes is there to hack it away.

William Allen
43

England earn another free-kick on the right, which Rice will take.

Rice's ball is hit with plenty of pace, but it can't find an England shirt. Brazil get it behind for a corner.

William Allen
41

Ufff, that's dreadful from Maguire.

His backpass is woefully underhit, allowing Raphinha to nip and shoot from the edge of the box

Luckily for Maguire, Raphinha doesn't hit his strike right at all. He screws it past Pickford's post.

William Allen
40

Bellingham drives forward, before being fouled by... you guessed it, Paquetá.

The West Ham player, who is on a yellow, is actually quite lucky not to be booked. Bellingham certainly thinks so, and gives the referee a sizeable piece of his mind when the Portuguese refuses to produce a second yellow card.

William Allen
36

Having so nearly gone behind, can England respond?

Chilwell touches it back to Gordon on the edge of the Brazil box, but the Newcastle winger's shot is blocked.

A moment later, Foden whips a low, curling effort towards goal from 20 yards or so out, but it's too close to Bento.

England's first shot on target, apparently.

William Allen
35

Brazil hit the post!

Fresh from his richly deserved yellow card, Paquetá has space to pick his spot from 12 yards or so out, but finds Pickford's right-hand upright! England gave him far too much freedom to shoot.

William Allen
34

Paquetá, who has committed foul after foul tonight, is booked for bringing down Stones on the halfway line.

William Allen
32

Rodrygo plays a neat give-and-go with Paquetá, whose lifted return ball finds the Real Madrid forward in space inside the England box.

Thankfully for the hosts, however, Rodrygo loses his footing and can't control. The chance is lost.

William Allen
31

England come again.

Watkins feeds it out to the left to Gordon, before receiving the return and scampering towards the byline.

He then cuts it back into the middle, where Bellingham is arriving - but Bellingham can't connect.

Nice build-up play, though.

William Allen
30

England are racking up the free-kicks. This time it's Bellingham who is felled, Joao Gomes bringing him down in a central area some 40 yards or so out from goal.

Rice clips the dead ball into the box, but Brazil clear.

William Allen
28

Receiving the ball just outside of the Brazil box, Gordon tries to clip a curling shot into Bento's far corner, but it's deflected behind.

Again the corner is cleared only as far as Chilwell, who's loitering with intent just outside the area. He doesn't sky his effort this time, but he can't find the target. He scuffs a bouncing shot a few yards past Bento's left-hand post.

William Allen
26

England have reclaimed the initiative in the last few minutes.

Once more, Chilwell crosses from the left, but Fabrício Bruno heads away.

Back come England, though, Foden playing it to Bellingham and advancing into the box in search of the Real Madrid player's return. Foden then flops to the floor under Wendell's challenge... but again Mr Soares Dias says no penalty.

William Allen
25

The corner finally falls to Chilwell on the edge of the box, where the Chelsea man has time to meet the bouncing ball with a shot.

The less said about that shot, though, the better. It flies high into the stands.

William Allen
24

Chilwell takes, drifting his cross onto Maguire's head at the far post - and the Manchester United defender's effort comes off a blue shirt and is deflected behind.

William Allen
23

And again Paquetá gives away an England free-kick. This time it's in the left-hand channel, after he brings Gordon down.

Rice and Chilwell standing over it...

William Allen
22

England win yet another free-kick on the right wing, and Foden will take.

Foden lifts it high to the back post to Rice, who has peeled off into space. He has too much time to chest it down and fire it low into the middle, but Brazil deal with it.

William Allen
19

Walker is off - England are clearly taking no chances with that hamstring problem.

He's replaced by Konsa, who is making his debut.

William Allen
17

Now England create their best chance thus far - but Watkins blazes over!

From the left, Bellingham lifts it to Gallagher at the top of the box. He then works the bouncing ball to the right to Watkins, who has space to burst into the area and shoot.

His first touch is good, but his second isn't. He fires well over the bar!

William Allen
16

England enjoyed much the better of the opening 10 minutes, but Brazil are coming to life now.

First, Vinícius jinks past Walker inside the box, before tumbling to the turf under the right-back's challenge. No penalty, says the referee.

A moment later, Brazil work it to Rodrygo in shooting space in the area, but he flashes his low strike past the post!

William Allen
14

Play is halted for a minute or so when Walker drops to the turf, clutching his hamstring.

He leaves the field for a moment's treatment... but is quickly back on. Let's see how he gets on.

William Allen
13

Oh, that's a bad tackle by Bellingham. He catches Bruno Guimaraes with a very late challenge, and deservedly goes into the book.

William Allen
12

Oh, that's a fine chance for Vinícius!

In the blink of an eye, the Real Madrid forward is released in behind the England defence, with Pickford coming out of his goal to narrow the angle.

Vinícius beats Pickford, but undercooks his shot! Walker has time to scuttle back and clear it off the line!

William Allen
11

Now it's England's turn to keep the ball for a little while.

The hosts finally feed it left to Chilwell, who tries to whip a ball into the area, towards the penalty spot. Fabrício Bruno is in position to clear.

William Allen
9

Brazil enjoy their first sustained period of possession, keeping it inside England's half for a good minute or so.

The visitors finally work it to Rodrygo, who has space to dart towards the England box and shoot. He zips a low effort towards Pickford's left-hand corner, but it doesn't have enough power or direction to trouble the keeper.

William Allen
7

We're only seven minutes in, of course, but Brazil have barely crossed the halfway line thus far.

William Allen
6

This time it's Chilwell who takes, clipping a curling ball into the box towards Maguire at the back stick.

The flag is up, though. Maguire had drifted into an offside position when Chilwell played the ball in.

William Allen
5

Now England win another free-kick, in pretty much exactly the same spot as the other one.

Again Gallagher leads the attack, and again he is fouled by Paquetá.

William Allen
3

It's Foden who'll deliver... and he almost catches Bento at at his back post!

Foden whips a ball over everyone's head and, for a moment, it looks like it's going to drop into the far corner of the net. It flashes just wide, though.

William Allen
2

England get their first chance to push Brazil back, Gallagher scampering forward and slipping it right to Walker.

Walker gets himself in a bit of tangle, but manages to work it back inside to Gallagher, who is fouled. A dangerous early free-kick for England on the right-hand corner of the box.

William Allen

Peeep! Artur Soares Dias gets us underway.

Last look at the England and Brazil line-ups

God Save the King is next - and with that sung, it’s almost time to go. A final reminder of tonight’s teams:

England

Pickford, Walker, Stones, Maguire, Chilwell, Rice, Gallagher, Bellingham, Foden, Gordon, Watkins

Brazil

Bento, Danilo, F. Bruno, Beraldo, Wendell, Guimaraes, Gomes, Paquetá, Rodrygo, Vinícius, Raphinha

William Allen

Out come the teams!

"We shouldn't mess with" flag - Sunak

The controversy stems from the fact that the shirt includes a multi-coloured St George’s Cross on the back of the collar, in what Nike have called a “playful update on the traditional red and white national flag.

It's a creative decision that has come in for criticism (from people who, if you ask me, need to get a grip - it's just a football kit).

UK prime minister Rishi Sunak, for example, said: "When it comes to our national flags, we shouldn't mess with them because they're a source of pride, identity, who we are, and they're perfect as they are.”

William Allen

England's new kit causes controversy

As I mentioned earlier, we'll be seeing two new Nike kits at Wembley today.

England's - which I think is de-lish - has become quite the bone of contention in the UK. Sigh.

William Allen

A long time since last competitive meeting

England and Brazil haven't crossed swords in a competitive match for over 20 years now.

That clash, as David Seaman won't thank me for reminding you, came in the quarter-finals of the 2002 World Cup.

Ronaldinho's fabulous/ridiculously flukey lob over Seaman's head earned the Brazilians a 2-1 win in Japan, on their way to their most recent world title.

William Allen

When did England and Brazil last meet?

This is England and Brazil's first meeting since November 2017, when they also faced off at Wembley.

That day, the teams played out a scoreless draw - their second straight stalemate.

The countries had drawn 2-2 in their previous encounter, in Rio de Janeiro in June 2023.

Who is Dorival Júnior?

Dorival Júnior has had a long coaching career, but many of you may not be entirely familiar with him.

In two decades in the dugout, Dorival has coached a large, large number of Brazil’s major clubs: Cruzeiro, Santos, Vasco da Gama, Internacional, Atlético Mineiro, Flamengo, Fluminense, Palmeiras, Athletico Paranaense, São Paulo...

A Copa Libertadores winner with Flamengo in 2022, he left São Paulo to take up the Brazil post.

The Brazilian Football Federation turned to the 61-year-old after missing out on first choice Carlo Ancelotti, who signed a new Real Madrid deal late last year.

To find out more about Dorival, check out my colleague Calum Roche's profile of the coach.

Gordon given England bow, Brazil packed with debutants

England vs Brazil: welcome

Hello there! It comes with the house-sized caveat that it's only a friendly, of course. But, nonetheless, a match between England and Brazil at Wembley, a stadium dubbed by Pelé himself as the 'church of football', sounds rather appealing, doesn't it?

Kick-off in London is at 7pm local time - about an hour and a half from now. If you're in the US, the ball gets rolling at 3pm ET/12 noon PT.
