England vs Ghana live online: updates, score, goals and highlights | 2026 World Cup Group L
Thomas Tuchel’s England gave one of the most convincing performances of the opening batch of group stage matches and today they take on Ghana in Group L.
Our AS team got a chance to talk to Teddy Sherringham before this massive match up and he gave a little insight on the match, the team and who he would have played with if not his national team. Thanks to our friends at Comeon.com for the collab.
Rice's corner is sent away at the front post by Adjetey and it looks like we are heading to the break deadlocked at 0-0.
Kane with his first chance after Guehi played Rice through the middle. A quick touch to Kane was settled at the top of the area but Kane's shot was blocked away again.
Another spell of possession in the attacking third that ends in nothing after Bellingham takes a heavy touch and watches it roll out over the end line.
SIX MINUTES OF STOPPAGE TIME FROM NEW ENGLAND.
Rice sends it in and Ayew was there with the clearance.
Jude earns a corner for England after a run to the end line and a cross that was blocked off.
Auew into the area on the corner but Guehi was there with a convincing header away.
Semenyo making an impact again, and this time he earns his team a corner kick with two minutes to go in the first 45.
Semenyo fought his way off James who was sheparding the ball out for a goal kick and carried it all the way into the center of the area but didn't find the space to let a shot loose.
Rice is shown a yellow card after a late challenge on Opoku.
Really impressed at how Ghana have come out. They knew the task at hand and they have dealt with every bit of danger thrown at them so far.
Madueke taking on a defender on this near side and he sent it to the back post for Rice who got a head to it but couldn't direct it on goal. Frustration could start to set in if England don't make anything of all this possession.
Gordon driving down the left side for the first time all day and he sent a ball into the box for Bellingham but the defense was sound once again.
Not much happening on the pitch so we will show you who is in the stands here at New England Stadium.

Half an hour into this match and anyone who thought England was going to have it easy today is being proven wrong.
Out of the break and it's England with 225 passes completed to Ghana's 25. Paints a picture of just how this match is going.
WE ARE AT A HYDRATION BREAK HERE FROM NEW ENGLAND AND THE FANS ARE BOOING THAT DECISION. MAYBE BECAUSE IT'S ACTUAL QUITE COOL AND RAINING.
Harry Kane has barley had a touch of the ball so far. Give credit to Ghana for paying extra close attention to him and not allowing him any space.
James and Ayew with another clash of heads and the Ghana players is on the touchline having to get patched up.
Just wonder if the rain is playing a bit of a factor for England. They have controlled the game but when it comes to the final few touches the slick surface might just be complicating things.
James with a ball in from the right side and Opoku nods it away. No real chance for either side almost 20 minutes into this game.
Rice swings it in and again Ghana gets there first and it is eventually played into touch by Mensah.
Rice picks up a loose ball in the box and tried to turn it on goal but Adjetey was there with a strong foot to block it away. Corner to come.
Rice got behind the defender on the left side and slid it back to Henderson who made one too many passes and again Ghana deal with the danger.
Kane and Sibo with a clash of heads and it's the England No. 9 that is slower to get back to his feet.
James laid it off to Rice who had a go at goal but that was always rising over the crossbar.
Free kick coming from the midfield just a little too far for a shot on goal, perhaps.
Madueke plays in James to the right side on the end line and he tried to slide it into the middle but that was cut out again by plenty of Ghana defenders back in the box.
Ghana dropping back and keeping tight knowing that they are going to have to withstand plenty of attacking play from England.
Bellingham and Kane going back and forth at the top of the box but there were plenty of yellow jerseys in the way to cut that attack out.
It's not going to be as easy getting behind this Ghana back line as it was against Croatia. England are going to need to be patient in their build up and work the ball from touchline to touchline.
Both of these teams just feeling each other out at the moment. Mostly its England with the ball but Ghana had a first push up the park that was extinguished in no time.
England in their classic white tops with the blue shorts while Ghana are in the all yellow kits.
Some light showers to start this game, and hopefully it stays at just that. We already saw how weather can delay a game in Philly last night.
England had a great start to this tournament and they will want to keep it going over the next 90 minutes.
WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM NEW ENGLAND!!!!
God Save the King will always be one of my favorite anthems anywhere, anytime.
The teams are coming out of the tunnel and the anthems are being cued up.
FIFA Rankings
When we take a look at the the ever changing FIFA Rankings coming into today we see the Three Lions in the fourth spot. That’s where they started the tournament, and their 4-2 win over a good Croatia side didn’t do enough to put them in the top three, where Argentina sit at the top ahead of France and Spain who are in second and third respectively. Brazil and Morocco are right behind the English while Croatia sit in 15th, Panama are 40th and Ghana are all the way down in 65th despite beating the South Americans in the opening match of the group stages.

Keane on Tuchel's team talk
While Harry Kane and Declan Rice rained praise on Thomas Tuchel for his halftime chat with the boys, there were some who weren't as impressed. It should come as no surprise that Roy Keane was less than enthusiastic with the change in dynamic out of the break, and was quick to point out that Tuchel doesn’t deserve as much praise as he is getting from his player or from the media. “Is it a bit of an overreaction to his half-time team talk? What’s he supposed to do? That is his job isn’t it? That’s the manager’s job to give them the information and they go out and produce,” said Keane.

Tuchel after Croatia win
There were a lot of positives to take out of the win over Croatia, but England Manager Thomas Tuchel isn't getting to carried away. “We need to do things better,” he said. “Defensively we dropped a little too deep from a middle block into a low block and deep block, which is in itself not a problem, but we went a bit too early. We were a bit too man-man focused and didn’t rely enough on our structure to be able to push out again.” The German manager said that maybe those mistakes can serve useful as learning lessons for the future. “Maybe it is good that we conceded, because it just tells us: 'Let’s not do this again.’ It makes no sense, it’s not us, it doesn’t play to our strengths. We had too many easy ball losses after ball wins, so we had a huge effort against the ball, win the ball, gave it back straight away.
Group L standings
Having a look at the Group L standings, we see these two teams at the top of the table after their opening match wins. Whoever wins this match will sleep as leaders of the group and put themselves in fantastic position to win the group. If England wins and Croatia beats or draws with Panama, that would mean the Three Lions would top the group no matter what happens in the final match day of the group stages. The interesting match on the final day of group stages will most likely be Ghana and Croatia who will be likely playing for the second spot in the group and automatic qualification for the round of 32.
Last match: Ghana
It was not as anticipated of a match as the other match in this group, but Ghana and Panama met to kick off their World Cup campaigns, and after 90 minutes of scoreless soccer, the deadlock was broken with a 95th minute goal Caleb Yirenkyi. It was a dramatic end to a match that didn't have a whole lot of chances. Ghana is going have to be a bit more attacking minded against the England team that will be looking to put out another convincing performance.

Last match: England
Two giants of the game met to open their World Cup campaign. Croatia who had been to the final and the semis in the last two editions of the WC took on England in a mouthwatering match to kickoff their campaigns. England took it to Croatia from the very start. Harry Kane put the Three Lions up from the penalty spot, but Croatia responded with a fantastic goal from Martin Batruina. Kane put England back in the lead with a header off a corner but Croatia responded with another golazo. Out of the break it was Jude Bellingham scored a great goal on a long run into the box and slotted it past the Croatia keeper. Marcus Rashford secured the three points with an 85th minutes goal and England began to start dreaming of it coming home.
