Erling Haaland found the back of the net twice for Manchester City in their 3-1 win over Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The City striker ended a 543-minute goal drought in the Champions League, having not scored since the second leg of the quarter-final against Bayern Munich, when he netted in the 57th minute against the German giants.

Haaland surpasses greats

With his brace against Young Boys, Haaland - at the age of 23 - scored goal number 37 in the Champions League, equalling a stat shared by Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé, according to stats guru MisterChip. Haaland has reached the number before the likes of Raúl (25 years old), Karim Benzema (26), Thomas Müller (27) and Cristiano Ronaldo (27).

The list of strikers he surpassed with his brace includes Thierry Henry, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Robert Lewandowski and Neymar, who all found goal number 37 at the age of 28.

Haaland’s next challenge

City’s next fixtures in the Champions League will be the second legs against Young Boys (7 November), RB Leipzig (28 November) and Red Star (13 December), where Haaland will be expected to score again, although he failed to score against the Germans and Serbs in the first two games. City and Haaland face Manchester United in the Manchester derby on Sunday.
