Another Monday morning, another update on Erling Haaland’s insatiable appetite for goal-scoring records.

The Manchester City forward scored his eighth and ninth goals of the Premier League season on Saturday, narrowly missing out on a third consecutive hat-trick. Haaland has began the new campaign in imperious form and he’s now on the brink of breaking yet another record.

The big Norwegian has now scored 99 goals in 103 games since joining City in the summer of 2022. If he scores in his next game for the club he will beat the record for the fastest century of goals for any team.

The current holder of that record is Cristiano Ronaldo, who reached 100 Real Madrid goals in just 105 matches. Haaland has the chance to beat CR7′s record when City take on Inter Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday. Failing that, he can equal it when Manchester City welcome Arsenal to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Understandably, City boss Pep Guardiola was full of praise for Haaland after Saturday’s brace against Bretford. Haaland had suffered the loss of a family friend earlier in the week and was initially a doubt for the match.

Guardiola explained: “Erling in the space is so difficult to control. It was a tough week for him. In the locker room we try to take care of everyone. If someone has problems we stay close. He is doing what he has been doing for many years perfectly.”
