Erling Haaland to Manchester City deal in place
With reports that confirmation will be out this week, rivals for the Norwegian’s signature will have to look elsewhere for their goal demands.
It could have been one of those long, protracted transfer sagas - some would argue it has been anyway - but a deal appears to be done: Erling Haaland is to be a Manchester City player for the 2022/23 season.
Haaland the icing on the City cake
Following in his father Alf-Inge’s footsteps, albeit with a bundle of more goals expected, Haaland will be announced as Pep Guardiola’s latest big signing this week. That is the news broken by The Athletic’s David Ornstein on Monday morning.
As Ornstein reports:
‘Sources in Germany have told The Athletic that the prolific Norway striker’s proposed move from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City is now a “done deal”, and should be confirmed this week.
Initial personal terms between the current Premier League leaders and Haaland were agreed last month after the 21-year-old gave his approval to the switch. That part of the matter is said to be complete.’
The news comes as City added an extra couple of points cushion to their Premier League lead over rivals Liverpool and will help some fans deal with the disappointment of last week’s exit from the Champions League. With one of the hottest strikers on the planet, they’ll already be eyeing next year’s campaign as a chance to finally be crowned Kings of Europe.
