In-depth interview with Chicharito and Douglas Costa ahead of El Tráfico
Our very own Rodrigo Serrano interviewed two LA Galaxy players ahead of their conference semi-final against LAFC tonight.
Ahead of the MLS Western Conference Semi-final between LAFC and LA Galaxy, our very own Rodrigo Serrano had a chat with LA Galaxy winger Douglas Costa and striker Javier Hernández, aka Chicharito. The game kicks off tonight at 7 p.m. PT at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
Both players seemed calm and collected, agreeing that this game is not any more important than any other game of the regular season. Though for Galaxy, it’s still a big deal. The last time they made the playoffs was in 2019 and they lost in the Conference Semifinals. They missed the playoffs last year, so it’s an exciting time for them to be back in it this year.
The rivalry between the two teams was manufactured by the MLS just about four years ago, but it was quite the success. “El Tráfico” is now a very real rivalry and it will take place tonight.
“Right now, the only thing I can think about is the game between LAFC and LA Galaxy,” Chicharito said. “It’s my first conference semifinal. It’s a really beautiful game.”
“We’re here in this city. We’re going to be in their stadium, too. But there’s going to be a lot of fans on our side too, supporting us,” said Chicharito.
The top goal scorers for the teams are Chicharito for Galaxy and Carlos Vela for LAFC. Chicharito has scored 11 in the last 13 games and Vela has had four in the last four. The two used to be teammates for Mexico but are now playing for rival teams. When asked how he felt about the Mexican fans viewing this game as a Chicharito vs Carlos Vela game, Chicharito simply said, “for me, it’s LAFC against LA Galaxy”.
