FC Barcelona: Ansu Fati joins Brighton on loan
Ansu Fati goes to the Premier League in search of minutes under Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi.
Brighton have announced the loan signing of Ansu Fati from FC Barcelona. The player wanted game time and joins the Premier League club as Xavi could not offer him regular first-team action. The loan deal is for one year and there is no option to buy. Brighton will also be responsible for almost all of the player’s wages.
At the beginning of pre-season, Ansu did not want to leave the Catalan club, but for Xavi, he was just another alternative in attack and his role was not going to be as important as the player wanted. As reported by AS on August 16, Ansu changed his mind and was open to a departure that has materialized at the end of the transfer window.
De Zerbi key
In recent days there was talk of Wolves, Chelsea, Tottenham and Sevilla as possible destinations, but the late move made by Brighton transformed everything. The Seagulls were able to convince the player of the role he will have at the club, and coach Roberto De Zerbi has been a key factor with his continuous calls to the Spain international. The proposal of the Italian coach and the seriousness of Brighton as a club ended up tipping the balance in their favour.
Ansu Fati’s record
Ansu Fati’s time at Barcelona has come to a halt, at least for this season. He leaves with 129 first-team appearances, 29 goals and ten assists. He also leaves the No. 10 shirt that he took after Lionel Messi’s departure.
