FC Barcelona Femení star Alexia Putellas returns to training after injury
The two-time Ballon d’Or winner returned to on-ball training today after suffering an ACL break last year.
Alexia Putellas has today returned to on-ball training with Barcelona after being out of action for almost a year. The club posted videos on their social media channels of the midfielder completing various training exercises with no physical issues.
It is a welcome piece of news for both the club and fans alike as Alexia has not featured since July, when she ruptured her ACL while preparing for the European Championship with Spain.
Alexia could return this season
According to various reports in Spain, Alexia could return to play for Barcelona by the end of this season, but her return will most likely not be rushed and she may have to wait until the 2023/24 season to ensure she is at 100%.
National team woes
As for the national team, they will be strong contenders to win the upcoming Women’s World Cup in July this year. Unfortunately, the squad, despite seemingly being in a good run of form, has suffered from immeasurable controversy over the past months, with 15 players writing to the Federation requesting not to be selected due to unhappiness over manager Jorge Vilda and his methods.
Most of the players included in the letter, which was also posted on social media and referred to the players not being in the right “emotional state” to play, were members of the Barcelona squad that Alexia belongs to.
Jenni Hermoso, an ex-Barcelona player who now plays for Mexican side Pachuca, hinted at a possible return to the side after a curious instagram post was uploaded on her account in which she said “Who would not want to?” in reference to playing at the World Cup. We shall see...
