Real Madrid and Colombia forward, Linda Caicedo, has been nominated for multiple awards thanks to her strong performances at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

The Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand is over, but the praise for Linda Caicedo is not. Shortly after the landmark trophy win for the Spanish National Team, FIFA listed the top players that the contest saw shine: praise for the Colombian National Team winger was not left out.

Which players were nominated for Teenage Starlet?

The governing body of world football included the Real Madrid winger among the “seven teenage starlets who dazzled at the FIFA Women’s World Cup” along with Vicki Becho (France), Esmee Brugts (Netherlands), Melchie Dumornay (Haiti), Giulia Dragoni (Italy), Aoba Fujino (Japan) and Salma Paralluelo (Spain).

FIFA laud Caicedo’s performances

In a statement, FIFA said: While many of their peers were back at home having just wrapped up their studies this collection of teenage stars were busy lighting up the FIFA Women’s World Cup over the past month. It was Spain’s Salma Paralluelo who took home the FIFA Young Player Award from Australia & New Zealand 2023 but it was a tough field she had to beat to claim that honour. Not all those on this list were household names heading into the tournament but they are now. This new crop of starlets to have emerged from the Women’s World Cup are set to be the torchbearers for women’s football for years to come.

As for Linda Caicedo, FIFA said that she “came into the tournament with a huge reputation from her time with Colombia’s youth teams... having turned 18 in February, Caicedo certainly didn’t disappoint, scoring in both of her nation’s first two matches with the strike that set up an upset 2-1 win over Germany in the group stage going down as one of the finest of the tournament.”

“Racing into the box to collect a loose ball, [Linda] danced between two German defenders and then sent a curling effort between another two and into the far corner; a stunning goal from the left winger who is on the verge of becoming a global superstar”, read FIFA’s statement on the strike.

Mayra, Leicy and Catalina, also singled out by FIFA

FIFA also published the top performing players according to the statistics and several names from the Colombian National Team were present. Mayra Ramírez was in the top 10 players with the most successful dribbles with 6.

On the other hand, Leicy Santos and Catalina Usme were part of the group with the most chances created, both with 10. Lorena Bedoya also stands out among those with the most tackles, with 33.
