Flamengo vs Al Hilal: summary: score, goals, highlights, FIFA Club World Cup

Soccer Football - Club World Cup - Semi Final - Flamengo v Al Hilal - Grand Stade de Tanger, Tangier, Morocco - February 7, 2023 Al Hilal's Salem Al-Dawsari celebrates after the match REUTERS/Andrew Boyers

Al Hilal beats Flamengo 2-3 and advances to the final!

What a moment for the Saudis! Their team advances to the final after knocking out everyone’s favorite Flamengo. The Brazilian team was a disappointment from start to finish. One might say that they underestimated the Saudi team. Their lack of concentration is alarming. They gave two stupid penalties in the first half and got a red card to go with those.

Al Hilal under the management of Argentina legend Ramon Diaz was a superb team today. They were able to control the flow of the game and dictate the tempo. They got off to a good start after an early goal, and they didn’t get nervous when Pedro scored the equalizer and kept to their tactical plan. Towards the end of the first half, they kept pressuring and pressuring until Gerson committed a stupid foul, and they were able to go up one at the half.

The Brazilians tried to organize things with two subs at the start of the second half, but their efforts were barely noticeable. The subs didn’t add anything to the game. Actually, they took away from it. The team didn’t have the intensity of the first half. Al Hilal knew the game plan, wait and catch Flamengo on a black. That’s exactly what they did, and Vietto scored a very pretty goal after a stupid lost ball in the middle of the pitch by Flamengo.

Al Hilal will now face the winner of the game between Real Madrid and Al Ahly. This will be the Saudi’s first final-ever play on a Club World Cup. This is history in the making, and we are more than happy to be able to witness this in real time and in 4k. Flamengo will have to go back to Brazil and try to explain how they lost this one.

Hearkbreak for Flamengo

Al Hilal heading to the final!

They have done it!

And the games is all over!!!

Corner for Flamengo and the keeper comes up!!!!

Al Hilal misses a clear goal while goalie Santos catches a shot from outside. Flamengo on the counter tries but the ball goes outside. And the Brazilians get one more play.

Flamengo tries and tries with centers from the right, but it seems like Al Hilal will take this!

And we’ll play 3 more minutes still.

What a strange goal!! Gabigol shoots from outside and the ball goes through the legs of the defender on a deflect where Pedro catches to it and just has to tap it!

Flamengo is not in the game. They can’t get the ball. Al Hilal monopolises the ball, touching side to side and they don’t seem nervous at all. This is not good for Flamengo.

Arturo Vidal comes in the game for Flamengo to try to add some fighting spirit, but it might be to late for them. The Brazilians can’t seem to penetrate the Saudis.

Ribeiro out - Arturo Vidal in

Flamengo are all out trying to score one. The desperation is real for them. If they can get one now, maybe they have a chance in the last 15 minutes of the game.

Al Hilal scores their third of the match after a nice counter! Flamengo loses the ball on the center of the pitch and on a fast break catches the Brazilian napping. Vietto with the nice shot on the right, were the keeper can’t get to it.

Flamengo tries to equalise this one. But the one player less is very noticeable on the field and Al Hilal tries to counter.

Khalifah out - Al Dawsari in

Al Hilal hits the post!! What a play on the right and the center! And Michael hits the post.

Almost!! Gabigol with a nice play on the right!!! He centers and can’t find Pedro on the penalty spot!

AL Hilal in control of the game looking for the space. Playing the ball fast on the right as Flamengo can’t seem to cope with one less player.

Two subs for Flamengo that tries to organize things after that red card at the end of the first half.

De Arrascaeta out - Fabricio Bruno In

Pereira out - Pulgar in

And here we go! Second half underway

Gerson penalty?

What do you guys think? Should that have been a red card?

Al Hilal goes up at the half

The surprise of the day is this Al Hilal team!

Should this have been a red card?

Ayrton felt this one and yet no red card given? What do you guys think?

First half done and Flamengo is in trouble against Al Hilal

What an end to the first half!!

Al-Dawsari!! Puts the second one against the Brazilians!

For Al Hilal! The second one for them in this match!! And Gerson gets the yellow and has been sent off!!!!

The ref is looking at a possible penalty for Al Hilal

Both teams want the first half to be over. Six minutes is too much for this game.

We’ll play six more minutes in this first half.

Pedro with the center from the left for Gabigol!! And he misses by just a few inches.

The ex-national team defender gets the yellow for a foul in the middle of the pitch.

David Luiz

Ayrton is back on the field and nothing’s change much. Bit of a bore. Flamengo has the tools but its not being active in seeking the second goal.

Ayrton has to be taken out of the field to get some treatment

The game has entered a no man’s land situation. Lots of fouls by both teams, making the game very slow and bit of a drag at the moment.

Nothing comes out the corner and now Al Hilal seems to try to calm things down after a Brazilian wave came over after the goal by Pedro.

Flamengo now owns the game and they keep attacking on the left. The Brazilians are now in form after a rocky start of the game. De Arrascaeta is the guy taking control of the game. The Uruguayan is moving the ball and now Flamengo has a corner.

The Flamengo number 9 gets the ball in after a nice play by the Brazilians who opened the ball to left wing to find Pedro who crossed the ball at the keeper and he can’t get to it .

Ramon Diaz on the bench of Hilal! The legendary Argentinian coach is at the helm. No wonder they don’t want to speculate and are taking the game towards Flamengo.

Gabigol gets the yellow for simulating penalty

Flamengo wanted a penalty but the ref is not buying and stead issues a yellow card on Gerson for simulating.

Flamenco can’t find the ball Hilal seems in control of the match. The Copa Libertadores winners can’t command the game as we all believed the could.

Salem Al Dawsari puts the Saudi team in front. What a start!

Matheuzinho fouled Vietto, who wins the penalty and it's 1-0 already.

Al Hilal take the lead!

Al Dawsari scores from the spot!

A reminder of the teams!

And we're underway!

The teams make their way onto the field of play!

Which club has won the most FIFA Club World Cups?

Real Madrid are the only team involved this year who have previously won the FIFA Club World Cup and they hold the record for most victories in the competition, although that’s a recent phenomenon, despite the fact that they’ve not won it for five years.

The reigning European Champions lifted the trophy four times in five years between 2014 and 2018, with their last two triumphs seeing them leapfrog three-time winners Barcelona into top spot.

Brazilian club Corinthians and Bayern Munich are next on two wins, with seven clubs (Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Milan, Inter, São Paolo and Internacional of Brazil) having won it once.

Gabigol starts in attack

Gabigol (Gabriel Barbosa) loves the big stage. Will he be able to fire Flamengo into the Club World Cup final?

Ighalo top scorer

Former Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo is Al Hilal's top scorer this season with nine goals in 14 games.

He starts up front for Ramón Díaz's side today and will be hoping to be a nuisance for the Flamengo back line.

Club World Cup history

AFC/Asian and CAF/African teams have reached two finals. Japanese side Kashima Antlers lost to Madrid in the 2016 final, while the Spaniards beat Al Ain of the UAE in 2018. Congolese club TP Mazembe and Raja Casablanca of Morocco are the two African finalists, losing to Inter and Bayern in 2010 and 2013 respectively.

OFC/Oceania is the only continent never to have provided a FIFA Club World Cup finalist, despite Auckland City holding the record for number of appearances. And that trend won’t be broken this year, with the New Zealanders having already been sent home by Al Ahly, who face Real Madrid tomorrow.

Al Hilal's third appearance

Al Hilal are making their third appearance at the Club World Cup.

Their coach, Argentinian Ramón Díaz, has managed South American giants River Plate twice, as well as the Paraguay national team for two years.

Semi-final clashes

Flamengo play Al Hilal in the first semi-final today, while Real Madrid will take on Al Ahly tomorrow.

Clubs from which country have won the FIFA Club World Cup most often?

The seven titles won by Real Madrid and Barcelona puts Spain at the top of the FIFA Club World Cup tree.

Previous victors have only ever come from four other nations: Brazil (four), England (three), Italy and Germany (both two).
