FC Barcelona fell on the right side of the line as they pulled out a crazy performance against Newcastle United in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg, scoring 7 by full-time to rubber-stamp their progression into the quarter-final round of the competition.

It was a sensationally entertaining game that saw 5 goals shared out in the first half, with a penalty put away by Lamine Yamal deep into added time to put his side in front on the night.

From there, Barça restarted the game with the shackles off, peppering the away side’s goal with constant chances from all angles.

After the game, Hansi Flick spoke to the media where he addressed the only negative of the night: injuries to both Joan and Eric García.

How do you sum up that match? It was definitely a crazy match. I think we weren’t sharp in the first half, but we were better in the second. Scoring the third goal allowed us to get back into the game before half-time, and that was important.

How are Eric and Joan? It doesn’t seem serious, but we have to wait.

What did you tell the players at half-time? That we played too directly in the first half. [Newcastle] are good on the counter-attack and we weren’t doing well. We managed to control the game more in the second half.

Did you tell the players that they have a day off tomorrow? Yes, they deserved it.
